Good afternoon to every Vagabond'z Spirit reader out here! I hope you had incredible time celebrating Christmas and New Year. I definitely had and would like to give 2022 a great start with giving your new music a review.

I was thinking of the band I should start writing with and after having a listen to couple of band I came up with the decision. I would like to start 2022 with brutal death metal that makes your lungs filled with thrashy and kicking riffs and incredibly powerful growling vocals. Sounds intriguing?

I was speaking of OvDeth. This Finnish metal band became one of those I explored recently, huge thanks to Inverse Records. Both the band and their new single were absolutely new for me to listen to.

First of all, I'd like to tell you some facts of the band itself. OvDeth is a death metal band based in Helsinki, Finland. In accordance with releasing the new EP the band released the single Perished taken from the upcoming record. I'm going to go though this music now.

OvDeth - Perished OUT NOW via Inverse Records

From the very first seconds of intro the band convinces me to catch their music spirit and start headbanging. Hell yeah, it's been truly massive start for the single and I must say done in talented and professional way. The beginning of Perished sharply erupted with kicking brutal death metal riff soon caught by strong and violent blast beats. That’s obviously good step from the band to gather attention and make a name of genuine death metal band.

Excellently accomplished with growling vocals, the song pattern is now full. In the beginning the scream worked properly like emphasizer and power source making the song totally wild and driving. I must claim the vocal skill to be exhilarating and nicely combine to the main idea situated in Perished. The vocals greatly develop the song adding the energy to some parts with repeating a word like empty, empty, empty... Such small features can really maintain the song mood putting an accent on some particular feeling or mood.

Even the song isn't enriched with advanced melodies, the ideal and suitable dynamics are made by kicking mixture of all instruments. The guitar riff mostly remains the same and to my mind it's great advantage for this song because namely this feature makes the single so driving while the vocals support that idea making it more spacious. The riff faces a slight change closer to the end of the song only, making a great finish and adding up to the main idea.

Even ruthless and kicking song has its milder side and that's what represents the music written in Finland. A brutal song must have a melodic emphasizer that will add up to the growing fire created by lower range instruments. Perished has its own softer side demonstrated by adding two elements into the song. The first one comes with adding short melodics to the main riff in some moments of the song and I'd like to pay special attention to the second element I enjoyed the most.

The turning point for this one is incorporated in to the bridge that breaks the total death metal atmosphere adding melancholic and sorrow shades to the violent and relentless death metal. Yeah, this rapid change is just intoxicating and namely because the change wasn't too sharp. There OvDeth made a total blast adding just silent and calm speaking complimented with background guitar melody. The drums sound still remains pretty deep making the new song feature suit the main idea. Perished even made me have goosebumps with the part of the bridge struck with palm mute guitar part and melodics... What a piercing part!.. I must also notice the incredible chords selection that points out the melancholic and it's total banger.

After such touching and downhearted part I started taking this song in a bit another way. I feel many freedom shades concentrated in growling vocals but also I can speak of pain and despair. I'm sure Perished to be fulfilled with sorrow even the violent parts placed throughout the song. This song is proof for death metal to be really powerful and deep metal genre able to hold pain and sorrow in addition to classic darkness, heaviness and brutality. This Perished feature represents absolute Finnishness contained developing the song to even maybe melodic death metal because it has many similar to namely melodic death metal. Adding short takes of lead parts to the heavy and dark riff of adding that special touching bridge make the advantage for the band to attract more attention to their music and it's nothing but only a good step OvDeth implemented in to Perished.

High level production has only highlighted the features I mentioned before. Dynamic and deep drums supported by bass and guitars have created the complete picture of the band ready to go further with their way of making music. Undoubtedly, I'm going to check their earlier releases to mind the music growing and development.

Driving and massive sound, striking vocals and deep drums basement is only something that could make you love OvDeth and their new single Perished. I'm sure the upcoming Mortal Burden EP will have the same spirit and I'm looking forward to give the band's new music an entire look and evaluation later.
